Hi! I’m Kaira, a NYC based psychotherapist who supports Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) millennials learn to work through unresolved trauma and manage any feelings of depression and anxiety.
Living in a perpetual state of disconnectedness and being on auto-pilot for too long led me on a journey of self-inquiry. For as long as I could remember, I was experiencing constant brain fog, dissociative episodes, angry outbursts and simply unable to emotionally connect with anyone around me. I felt so alone living within myself and all I knew were the walls that I built around me. What appeared as “hitting rock bottom” turned out to be my catalyst for self-healing and transformation. I soon discovered that healing was possible, which I was only able to access by facing myself and all the pain that I was hiding from. And it was during my own journey of healing that I learned the joy of accompanying others on their paths to wholeness.
I have worked with children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, individuals involved in the criminal justice system as a forensic social worker, and adults all throughout New York City. My experience working with diverse populations has left me with a deep understanding of how some of our present day problems have roots from our past. I believe that childhood is where the subconscious is formed. This time period is when we learn how to process emotions, how to create boundaries, what relationships look like, and many other habits and behaviors. Working with different demographics of people has allowed me to understand how most people seek help for managing difficult emotions, relationship problems, identity confusion, and generalized feelings of low-self worth. While all of these issues manifest differently, they are all tied to conditioned behaviors that have been learned and practiced since childhood. And exploring this process is where we will navigate healing and work through emotional, mental and spiritual wellness.
I identify as a cis-gendered, multiracial, fierce ass woman. I take on many different roles. I am a first generation American born to a Filipina mother and Puerto Rican father. I am a daughter who was raised in a working class family who understands struggle all too well. I am a social worker, therapist, mother of two tuxedo cats, Lunar and Lucy. I am a world traveler, lover of life, and someone who is deeply committed to helping communities of color heal and reclaim their power.
I received my Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Masters in Social Work from New York University. I’ve gained my clinical experience working with children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, individuals involved in the criminal justice system as a forensic social worker, and adults all throughout New York City as a therapist in the following years.
